Glow stuff is cool. It’s an added challenge to produce a piece of art that’s meant to be viewed in multiple lighting situations.
Fluorescent paints are striking in the daytime, but even more so under a black light.
Metallics and paints with different sheens can add effects to a painting that will only come through when viewed in person, adding value for the collector.
And then, of course, there are paint parties, body painting, and other live painting experiences that can only be done with fluorescents and glow-in-the-dark paints.
They are so much fun!
This client, who happens to be my mechanic, asked for a painting with mechanical and Pink Floyd motifs, so I gave him a black light painting with a neon motor being struck by lightning, a flying pig, and lasers.
Shaman of the Solstice, acrylic on canvas. There are several elements in this image that are reactive under a black light, including the Aurora Borealis and the dancing elves.

Under the Big Top, acrylic on canvas. This is a depiction of a DMT experience, as told to me by the client. Fluorescents and glow-in-the-dark paints were used.
This one was done with multiple sheets of fluorescent craft foam, cut out and layered as the matting around the colored pencil drawing. The frame was painted with watercolor.
